On May 27, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Miss Salt River Committee held a Farewell Dance for the outgoing Miss Salt River and her Court.

The event was held at the Salt River Pi-Copa Gym at the Community Building, where many families showed up to see the Court dance, give away prizes and talk about their reigns over the past year.

“Throughout my reign, this has been a learning experience, as this is my first title. It was such an amazing opportunity to be able to represent the Community, my family and myself,” said Junior Miss Salt River 2022-2023 Tirsa Reina.

Tirsa’s sister, Miss Salt River 2022-2023 Nani Reina, was brought to tears at the end of the dance as she thanked the visiting royalty, the singers and the Miss Salt River Committee.

“Thank you so much to the Community for allowing me to be Miss Salt River this year,” said Reina. “It has been a huge honor, and I am very proud of each one of these girls for being beside me and having the honor to represent ourselves, our family, and most importantly, the people of Salt River.”

The outgoing first attendants are Kenda Percy (First Attendant to Miss Salt River) and Aiyanah Lerma (First Attendant to Jr. Miss Salt River).

For the dance, the Court gathered around gourd dancers and singers on the dance floor while visiting royalty, families and friends joined in.

Cruz Band provided the musical entertainment for the event.
