June 30, 2026Youth Leagues Wrap Up
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Recreation Department hosted their annual coach pitch baseball league this spring. Youth ages 6 to 8 played in games at the Salt River Ballfield and the Von Hayes Field.
In March, parents signed up their junior athletes for t-ball or coach pitch leagues, depending on age. As teams were formed and practice sessions began, each team was given a special Arizona Diamondbacks jersey and baseball cap for the players to wear during games.
These leagues are designed to teach young players the fundamentals of baseball while also giving them an opportunity to be physically active and social.
Games started on April 21 and ended in early June. The league is part of the Friendship Youth Sports League. Along with coach pitch and t-ball, Little League baseball also was offered.
