With a high priority for the safety of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, the Salt River Police Department held a seatbelt safety check on January 12 at the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) in a joint operation with the SRPMIC Injury Prevention Program.

The seatbelt safety check assists families with the safe installation and checking of their child safety seat devices. “There are many manufacturers and different ways of attaching seatbelts, and we strive to simplify that process and allow parents and families to know their installation is correct and safe,” said SRPD Off. Joseph Orozco, Community-based policing and public information officer.

The event had a good outcome and brought more attention to the issue, which will lead to another seatbelt safety event just before Valentine’s Day, projected for Friday, February 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. “The event has no cost except for the small amount of time it takes to gain that extra peace of mind,” said Off. Orozco.

If you are not able to attend the events, SRPD is always available to provide child safety seat installations or checks on an individual basis. Email SRPDPIO@srpmic-nsn.gov to set up a date and time.

SRPD also has a seatbelt safety PSA on their YouTube page at http://youtu.be/FMtXKqOsr94.
