July Senior Breakfast

By Andreea Miguel

On Wednesday, July 3, Salt River Senior Services hosted its monthly senior breakfast at the Lehi Community Building. July’s breakfast took seniors to “The Great Hall” in Hogwarts Castle, as the theme for this month is Harry Potter. The room was decorated with banners, balloons and wands as Senior Services staff members greeted each guest in their Hogwarts House costumes, alongside the new 2024-2025 Jr. Miss and Miss Salt River Courts.

Before taking their seats, guests had the opportunity to visit different informational tables set up by Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community departments including Public Works, Finance, Health and Human Services, and Community Relations. Each table had different brochures and goodies for the seniors as they made their way around to be seated at the dining tables, which were decorated according to the four different Hogwarts houses shown throughout the Harry Potter books and movies: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

As seniors got settled in, SRPMIC Council Member Jacob Butler recited an opening prayer before a plate of toast, eggs, hash browns and gravy were served to each guest, with the choice of a cup of coffee or orange juice.

SRPMIC Senior Services also had an agenda of informational presentations lined up for the morning. Topics included brownfields redevelopment planning, a message about missing persons, monsoon safety tips from Robert Scabby of the Salt River Fire Department, and a voting outreach message for the upcoming election in Arizona, which included introductions to several political candidates.

As the event came to an end, the Salt River seniors left with full bellies, bags filled with complimentary goodies, and useful information that will benefit them in the future.
