Cowtown Skateboards Hosts Skateboarding Seminar in Salt River

By

For nearly 30 years, Cowtown Skateboards has been leading the way when it comes to sharing the joys of skateboarding here in the Valley.

On Feb. 28, in collaboration with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Cowtown Skateboards hosted a skateboarding seminar at the Ske:g Himdag Ki: with the help of SRPMIC Adaptive Recreation Coordinator Ethan Larned.

“The Honor Roll Skate Clinic successfully trained 12 Community members in essential safety and instruction techniques to bolster our local skateboarding programs,” said Larned.

He added, “The team from Cowtown also joined the clinic, providing expert mentorship to ensure our volunteers felt fully confident in their ability to instruct others. Through their support, our new instructors gained the technical skills necessary to break down complex tricks for beginners in a safe, encouraging environment.”

Cowtown Skateboards hosts a roster of skateboarders which includes John O’Neal, Nick Papa, Riley Johnson and others.

“This collaboration bridged cultural leadership with professional expertise, creating a well-rounded experience for everyone involved,” shared Larned. “We are now better equipped than ever to provide a safe, inclusive and thriving space for our Community’s young skaters.”

Skateboarding continues to be a popular sport here in the SRPMIC. Last month, Las ChicAZ, an Arizona-based skateboarding organization, held a skateboarding clinic for girls ages 5 to 16.

On March 21 and 22, Cowtown Skateboards hosted the 24th Annual Phoenix Amateur Street Skateboarding Contest at the Desert West Skateboard Plaza in Phoenix. The annual event was for skateboard artists looking to get sponsorships and make the leap from amateur status to the professional league.

Larned and the rest of the Recreation and Adaptive Recreation team continue to seek out healthy and exciting programs and events that Community children can enjoy.
