Westwood Girls Basketball Team Includes Four SRPMIC Members

1782

Basketball season began on Tuesday, November 30 for the Westwood High School girls basketball team. This year the team includes a number of Native Americans, including four members of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community: Nyese Jones (senior), Kristine Scabby (junior), Angelina Montoya (sophomore) and Alexis Smith (junior).

In their first game, the Lady Warriors played against the Xavier College Prep Gators at home; they lost to the Gators 48-68.

The Lady Warriors are still determined to get to the championships, with Jones leading the team. At the end of their last season Jones said they hope to make it to the Final Four once again and hopefully the championships. Scabby and Montoya are returning to the team after a successful season last year; Scabby is the fourth-biggest stat holder in a number of categories and Montoya broke the 100-point mark in her freshman year. New to the varsity team this year is Smith, who played on the JV team last year.
