Native Football Camp Held at Scottsdale Community College

On Oct. 8, the Fiesta Sports Foundation held a football clinic for youth ages 6-17 at the Scottsdale Community College football field. Kids had the opportunity to participate in drill stations that were designed to enhance skills.

Stations were managed by the San Carlos High School football team and Sammy Moore, a former Washington State University wide receiver, was a special guest.

“Whenever I was growing up, I was never able to do things like this, but seeing their energy, seeing how happy they are and seeing how they don’t have a care in the world, and they are able to be kids, that’s the message I want to give these kids, to continue being kids,” Moore said.

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community has had a special connection with the Fiesta Sports Foundation and for three years they have reached out to the Community’s Recreational Services to host the clinic for Community youth.

[Fiesta Bowl] “usually partner up with us and ask us if we’d be open to having some of our kids come out and do some football drills and just get them involved with what they have going on,” Recreation Coordinator Jacob Schurz said.

Each participant was given a white t-shirt with the Fiesta Bowl Clinic logo and Fiesta bowl mascot, Spirit, was out motivating and engaging with participants as they ran drills. After, as the camp concluded, all participants gathered for a photo and were given a football-shaped bag with goodies.

“Continue to be great, continue to see yourself bigger than what you are, do not let anyone tell you that you can’t become something because the sky is the limit,” Moore said.
