On Wednesday, August 7, seniors of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community gathered at the Talking Stick Golf Club for the monthly senior breakfast, hosted by SRPMIC Senior Services staff. The club overlooks the Talking Stick Golf Course, affording guests a breathtaking view as they were welcomed and seated. 

The theme this month was “The Great Gatsby,” after the book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and rendered into a movie in 1974, which was then rebooted in 2013. The seniors were taken back to the Roaring Twenties, an exciting time when “stocks reached record peaks and Wall Street boomed in a steady golden roar” (from a reference to The Great Gatsby movie, 2013).

Amidst the soft jazz, good food, conversation and a dance floor booming with performers dressed as flappers, seniors also had the opportunity to have their portraits drawn by a caricature artist. 

The menu offered eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, sausage and fruit, along with an assortment of pastries. 

As the morning progressed, so did the number of seniors and invited guests who headed onto the dance floor to learn dance moves that were popular during the 1920s. 

After announcements of upcoming Senior Services events and some final performances on the dance floor, the seniors left the golf club to start their day.
